What's On Your Door?

At camp one of our kitchen doors is the prominent place for all inside jokes, funny photos, staff quotes, thank you cards and randomness.

Here's a recent (updated) Photoshop creation.  On a serious note - check out our BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.

Talent Show

Last night, we hosted our annual Talent Show, in honor of the many talents our campers bring with them. After an epic opening ceremony with the flag and National Anthem, everyone enjoyed a solid hour of singing, dancing, instruments, skits, and comedy - all performed by awesome Shepherds campers. This is one of our absolute favorite traditions, and it's easy to see why!

Theme Night

Summer 2015's theme is pretty cool, and the fact that we celebrate it each week is even cooler. We've mentioned Theme Night a few times before, but now it's time for the full scoop of what it is and how it runs  (You might want to buckle up....pun intended).

First, the theme: "Winning the Race." Is this a real race with sneakers, shorts, months of training? (I hope not - I'd be really bad at it). Luckily, the answer is no. We based this summer's theme on Philippians 3:14, "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus," and 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." This is our legacy as God's followers; we go through life with a strong faith in God.

Logistically, Theme Night takes place on Thursdays. But despite the name, it doesn't start at night. Our day begins with pedal cart rides during morning rotations. Since last year, we've given out pedal cart licenses and allowed campers to ride around the black top with a staff member. Loads of fun!

Then, the decorations. The whole dining room becomes a racing hub of pennants, ribbon, and road-themed tablecloths, which campers can feast their eyes on while they dine on chili cheese dogs and tater tots.

All in all, it's a fun day. But even in the games and activities, we keep the focus where it should be -  God's instructions on faith and living life for Him.

Tuesday cookouts

It's Tuesday, and around here, that means something very special is coming...

Cookout dinner!

After a free time jam-packed with swimming, dancing, and games, what's better than a savory meal cooked on the grill? During the afternoon, we use the tractor to position picnic tables right on the black top, and then our incredible kitchen staff, Program team, and James Project all serve campers from behind the portable food lines. It's a time to relax and enjoy a delectable dinner under the sun, with the aroma of the grill and the pleasant company of others.

Tuesday cookouts are a tradition that's been going strong all summer, and today looks like a perfect day to keep it rolling. We're all looking forward to some good food, and a cheerful meal spent with our campers.

Reconnect with a purpose

This goes out to all you fantastic Arrowhead Bible Camp alumni... it's time to reconnect!

You have served at Arrowhead before, and we want you to keep in the loop about what God does here on a daily basis. It's simple! Just stop by our website and fill out our alumni form, under the Alumni page, to let us know how you've been doing, and to receive weekly updates about what's up at camp. Find us on Facebook, and feel free to share us on your social media pages. Encourage other alumni to reconnect and fill out the form as well!

The Arrowhead legacy that you helped build is still growing strong. Reconnect with Arrowhead, and spread the word. We look forward to hearing from you!

Bowling... with people?

Out of all the crazy games we play at camp, Camper-Counselor Bowling is one of the most popular. It involves campers rolling a rubber bowling ball across the grass to knock down the pins... or rather... the counselors! Everybody can play, and everybody gets a spare or a strike. How will the counselors topple? One at a time? With a twirl? It's different every time. It's not hard to see why the campers get such a big kick out of this one - seriously, what's more fun than seeing your counselors get in pin formation and then tumble?

Meet Katie B.

Here's an illusive photo of Katie B. our Media Design Coordinator (As you can see she is usually on the other side of the camera).  What does a Media Design Coordinator do you ask?  This new seasonal staff role is huge!  Katie takes daily photos around camp, decorates for our theme night, takes and processes camper group photos for printing, compiles the session ending slideshow, writes blog posts, updates facebook, adds to the website, runs our sales table and is designing our 2015 yearbook.

Wow! is right.  Her artistic design skills, writing forte and photography abilities have been a tremendous addition to our 2015 summer camp season.

Gym Time

Nothing beats a good game session in the gym! That's where we are hanging out today, with parachute games, rubber bowling, bean bag tosses, and dance music. Energy levels are high as always, and campers will have an absolute blast on (shh! it's a surprise!) theme-night Thursday. Spirits are through the roof!

Let the Good Times Roll

This morning was so beautiful, we decided to do our daily stretches and exercises on the black top. Fresh air and a few (walking!) laps got everyone up and ready for a brand new day of camp. Today, we're looking forward to crafts, pedal carts, games, and as always, fantastic food. Seriously, could camp get any more fun?

It sure can!

As we roll into week two of Session 1, we are both excited to welcome new campers, and continue hanging out with those who stay the full session length. With new faces in the mix, we can crank up the energy and dive into a fresh week. It is a blessing to see God bring this many campers out for a retreat packed with so much fun and love. It’s an experience we would like to share with everyone we can.

Work'n for the Weekend... again

This past weekend we had a crew from Easton Bible Church here to help us with the final push before summer.  Collectively they logged in over 160 hours of landscaping, weeding, edging, mulching, cleaning and BUILDING STEPS.

Camp looks great and we are ready for our summer to begin in 7 days!

TBT - You're Never Too Old

You're never too old or too dressed up to go on a hayride.

Hayrides are just one of the many camp activities we have at camp.  Over the past 14 summers I have driven over 350 hayrides.  On our little 2 mile country loop that's 700 miles.  At 3 mph it adds up to 233 hours of hayrides.  That's like spending just under 10 days creeping along in a traffic jam.  It's a good thing hayrides are fun.

Everybody's Work'n for the Weekend

They came, they scraped, they painted.

What a weekend!  A huge thank you to Lumber City Church.  You are a continual blessing to us and we love partnering together.

TBT - Burlap and Dr. Seuss

Light weight, long lasting and American made (or American re-purposed).  It's something wonderful with endless possibilities.  It's the kind of thing a good Dr. Seuss book would be based on.

Do people under the age of 30 even know what a burlap sack is?  If not, then of course they wouldn't know all the other uses for it either.
